As the Facilitating Organization for the Black River AOC (Area of Concern) Advisory Committee, we have secured a support grant that is, in part, allowing us to provide Environmental Stewardship, Community Outreach, and AOC Educational Events.

These events are free of charge, and scheduled on a first-come first-served basis at your location or ours. Programs will be tailored to your specific age group and for the time allotted. Informational brochures will be available soon.

Our equipment & curriculum make this a very hands-on and candid discussion for groups of all ages, from elementary schools to colleges & adults, including scout troops, community groups, and anyone interested in making a difference. We have an interactive virtual reality (VR) headsets with 360 video of the Black River, the EnvironScience Watershed Model, hands-on debris displays, AOC artwork, and engaging PowerPoint presentations for all ages; activity books for the kids; and a watershed game for adult groups. We have an open discussion within each event about things like reducing waste, proper recycling, single-use plastics, composting, litter pick-up, doggie doo, and balloon releases. We will also talk about statistics on marine debris and its effects on wildlife & the environment, as well as providing a slide show and/or visual aids to depict the devastation it can cause. Additionally, we discuss where storm drains go and what not to flush down the toilet (as more things than you can believe reach Lake Erie via these methods).

“The EnviroScape Watershed Model made a real difference for the  students — it put the whole thing into perspective. Visualizing the storm drain concept, made it much more relatable.”
